The Yankees struck first when Garrett Jones doubled on a blooper to center field in the top of the fifth inning. It landed between Starling Marte, Gregory Polanco and Sean Rodriguez.
The Pirates scratched a run back in their half of the sixth inning when Jaff Decker singled home Willy Garcia.
The game is tied 1-1 as things shift to the seventh inning.
