Jeff Niemann looks solid for Rays in third spring start

Jeff Niemann turned in solid 4.1 innings of work for Rays.

The big right hander was touched for four hits, but only one was solid. Two were infield hits (one played poorly by Yunel Escobar) and another was a bloop single.

Niemann, who is battling for fifth spot in rotation, struck out three and walked three. He was replaced by Juan Sandoval.

Unfortunately for the Rays starter, Sandoval gave up three run homer to Matt Wieters and one of those runs was charged to Niemann, who has now given up 3 runs in 12.2 innings this spring.
