Rays edged Pirates 4-2 as pitching excels for both teams

Tim Beckham smacked a two run double to highlight the Tampa Rays 4-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates Thursday at McKechnie Field.

Both teams had to be happy about their pitching, especially the Rays. Alex Cobb started for Tampa and allowed only one hit in four innings with five strikeouts. He was followed by Chris Archer who threw three innings of hitless ball and struck out three with two walks.

For the Pirates, James McDonald had his best outing of the spring. In four innings, the big right hander gave up one hit, had a strike out and walked three.
