Pittsburgh catcher Francisco Cervelli prepares to hit in the bottom of the sixth inning against the Atlanta Braves on Thursday at McKechnie Field. JASON DILL/jdill@bradenton.com |
The Atlanta Braves lead the host Pirates on the strength of a first inning barrage. The Bravos put five past starter Vance Worley, who then settled into the game and retired 13 in a row at one point. The highlight of the frame was a two-run home run by Chris Johnson.
Meanwhile, the Pirates have steadily clawed their way back. Runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings have resulted in a one-run deficit.
Andrew McCutchen, who shredded his dreadlocks for charity, delivered an RBI single in the third inning. Josh Harrison (first inning) and Neil Walker (fifth inning) have solo homers for the Bucs.
