It's a final here at McKechnie Field with the Astros defeating the Pirates 13-7. An offensive display saw 23 combined hits between the two teams in a Grapefruit League game lasting 3 hours, 30 minutes. A total of 5,577 fans came to the St. Patrick's Day contest, which was a season low at McKechnie Field. Houston plated nine runs over two innings to tally most of its damage. Jason Castro belted a two-run home run in the third inning and an RBI double in the fourth inning. Chris Carter added a pair of doubles in both innings, too. Neil Walker's three-run homer in the third inning was the first dinger by a Pittsburgh player at McKechnie this spring.
Pittsburgh prospect Elias Diaz (7-for-14 this spring) blooped a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning. He took second base on a wild pitch, but was thrown out at home plate on a single to left field. The Pirates couldn't rally any further.
Pittsburgh hosts the Tigers in the lone night game at McKechnie Field on Wednesday. The 6:05 p.m. game is broadcasted on the MLB Network and features A.J. Burnett starting opposite Detroit's Shane Greene.
