Despite giving up two home runs
in the first three innings, the Pirates staged a furious rally
highlighted by Pedro Alvarez's big game in front of 6,662 fans Friday to defeat the Phillies, 6-5.
The first baseman smacked two doubles and launched an opposite field
home run to left field that accounted for three runs batted in.
Jose
Tabata plated Sean Rodriguez with a single in the sixth inning, before
Alvarez scored on a Tony Sanchez double in the eighth inning. The
winning run came in the bottom of the ninth inning when Sebastian Valle
had the walkoff RBI double to score Jordy Mercer.- Jason Dill
