Final: Pirates 6, Phillies 5



Despite giving up two home runs in the first three innings, the Pirates staged a furious rally highlighted by Pedro Alvarez's big game in front of 6,662 fans Friday to defeat the Phillies, 6-5. The first baseman smacked two doubles and launched an opposite field home run to left field that accounted for three runs batted in.
Jose Tabata plated Sean Rodriguez with a single in the sixth inning, before Alvarez scored on a Tony Sanchez double in the eighth inning. The winning run came in the bottom of the ninth inning when Sebastian Valle had the walkoff RBI double to score Jordy Mercer.
Recently named Opening Day starter, Francisco Liriano, is slated to start Saturday's 1:05 p.m. game at McKechnie Field against the Boston Red Sox. Wade Miley is expected to start for Boston, while the Bucs are set to have closer Mark Melancon and set-up man Tony Watson also throwing.
